Connect The Dots

#GetConnected at the Manny Cantor Center

Connect The Dots 04.10.14 from Illegal Art on Vimeo.

The Manny Cantor Center brings neighbors together over shared goals for our community, our city, and beyond. We believe that everyone is called upon, and everyone is able, to help transform our world. As we open our doors in a neighborhood renowned for its distinct flavor and rich blend of languages and culture, we hope the Manny Cantor Center will channel the uniqueness of our community – individually and collectively.

The Manny Cantor Center is proud to present the first art installation in our new space, CONNECT THE DOTS, an interactive public art project by Illegal Art.

dot1WHAT IS CONNECT THE DOTS?

For the project, CONNECT THE DOTS, Illegal Art asks participants to use a colored pencil or marker, all starting from the same circle, marked “Me”, and make a continuous line through a number of choices, indicated by vertically organized circles, such as age, languages spoken, political leanings, dietary preferences or whether they like beverages with ice or at room temperature. This will create a multi-colored stream of lines that will all end up in the same circle, marked “Us”.

CONNECT THE DOTS utilizes the obvious, mundane and trivial personal likeness and contrasts as a means to illuminate community.

CONNECT THE DOTS will be showing at Manny Cantor Center for the month of April.

dot3ABOUT THE ARTIST: ILLEGAL ART

Illegal Art is a collective of artists whose goal is to create interactive, participatory-based public art to inspire self-reflection, thought and human connection. Each piece is then presented or distributed in a method in which participation is simple and encouraged. For more information, please visit www.IllegalArt.org or email info@illegalart.org.
