Demetria Chappo is a Brooklyn-based artist and ceramist making homewares, decor, wall hangings and sculptures with an emphasis on organic and architectural form, intricate surface designs and textures and universal symbolism. Recalling places she’s lived along with spirited iconography of universe, earth, and waters, these natural features and modern structures are reflected in her surfaces and forms and her sgraffito carved graphics, hand painted patterns, and impressed textures.
With a passion for process and sharing the craft, she teaches ceramic classes and workshops to adults and children. In 2017, she was one of the founding organizers of Brooklyn Clay Tour, a weekend of ceramic events promoting the diverse and growing clay arts community.
Originally from Louisiana, she received a BFA in Acting from the University of Utah and currently lives on the Columbia Waterfront of Red Hook, Brooklyn. She has exhibited her work in galleries and sells in shops across the US and internationally. Her work has been featured in New York Magazine, Vogue.com, Martha Stewart Weddings, among others.
