Studio A: The Recycle & Reuse
Community Art Studio
Our Community Arts Studio is the creative hub of Manny Cantor Center. We collect recycled and repurposed materials, rescuing cardboard, paper, fabric, plastic and wood from the landfill and offering these materials a new life in creative projects by MCC community members of all ages. This studio is home to our early childhood art program, which follows a child-centered and process-oriented approach. Community Arts Educator Kristin Eno collaborates with teachers from 20 MCC early childhood classrooms, inviting children to play and create with diverse materials from our carefully-sorted collection. For young children, playing imaginatively with open-ended materials supports the healthy development of mind, body and spirit. In the Studio, children are supported as they communicate with their peers and teachers through the vehicles of many unique visual languages.
The Community Arts Studio is also home to Edgies Teen Center’s Fashion Youth Initiative in partnership with Fashion Institute of Technology, and is available for rent for private creative maker events.
Manny Cantor Center is reimagining the space formerly known as “The Materials Center” at Educational Alliance Art School. More information on community arts initiatives and donation and shopping hours coming soon.
