A ‘HOME AWAY FROM HOME’ FOR TEENS
“If it weren’t for Edgies, I wouldn’t have anywhere to go. Instead of hanging out on the street, I’m learning new skills, getting tutoring with schoolwork and I’m working hard to be the first person in my family to go to college!” — Christina, Teen Center member
About Edgies Teen Center
Since its inception in 2007, the Edgies Teen Center, Boys & Girls Club located in Manny Cantor Center, has developed into an engaging FREE hub for teens that live or go to school in the Lower East Side. We provide strengths based youth development through our four pillars: Academic Enrichment, Arts & Culture, Health & Wellness, and Social/Emotional Development & Leadership.
We offer dynamic programming in Mentoring, Performing Arts, Sports, SAT Prep, College Readiness, Keystone Club (leadership council), and Gender & Non-Conforming Discussion Groups.
Our teen participants are able to engage in experiences outside of the clubhouse such as overnight college tours, winter ice skating trips, and fun dinner experiences. Special guests like Lala & Carmelo Anthony, Adrienne Bailon, Chris Paul, and Adam Sandler have visited the Clubhouse.
Our dedicated staff motivates members to develop new skills and interests, improve their grades and academic achievement, and reach higher in planning their futures. As a result, many of our teens are achieving today more than they ever thought possible.
Edgies Teen Center at Manny Cantor Center is proud to announce our first ever Career Studio pilot program in partnership with Make Room! Youth Game Design Studios from E-line Media. In this class, open to students 13-18 years old, each participant will create their own video game. Students will learn the fundamentals of coding and web design, and build knowledge to understand side-scrolling and virtual reality code. Students will try their hand at incorporating personal themes and narratives into video game content while emphasizing video gaming’s connection to computer science and STEM education programs. Lunch will be provided.
Classes are held at Manny Cantor Center, 197 East Broadway | CR Level
Monday-Friday, July 23 – August 3, 2018 | 10AM-3PM

College & Career Readiness
Our programs ensure that under-served students in Downtown Manhattan have the resources and support to access college and to succeed once they’re there. Many of our teens are the first in their families to go to college.
